Social Entrepreneurship Experiences for Youth (ages 15-17)

Green Summer Jobs

Internships can be with large corporations like Eileen Fisher, community-based non-profits like the Harlem Arts Alliance, or innovative projects like GROW NYC. Participants intern at sites where motivated human beings strive to create a ‘green’ future as well as a safer, saner world today.

Green Business Projects

With guidance from local entrepreneurs and graduate business students, Interns work in groups to develop a “green” business plan of their own. They learn “to pitch” their idea in a presentation at our concluding celebration.

Teens are placed in New York City green businesses, social action/social justice not-for-profits, and civic organizations with a mentor in that organization serving as an on-site guide and coach for the internship. We balance the program by emphasizing job skills, computer literacy, resume writing and more along with new, real-world experiences.

Our New York City Sustainable Directions Internship offers youth training opportunities in a broad variety of innovative organizations that are committed to sustainability and social entrepreneurship. We work with students to determine areas of interest, location and availability and match them with exciting opportunities. Training in life skills, employment skills and entrepreneurship is an essential element of the program; interns attend a 3-day pre-internship orientation and weekly seminars, and they receive a stipend to cover their expenses and a metro-card to cover transportation.

If you, or a teen that you know would like a green summer job where they can learn skills to last a life- time and have a chance to experience the vibrant world of social enterprise, please contact us.
